Blog 1 - Bibliography

Hi all!

For this post, I would like you to begin to evaluate the quality of information that you are accessing.

In your post, please include a Harvard reference to a resource that you have used for your criminal profile. I would then like you to answer the following questions:

1. Is this a reliable source?
2. Who can edit the information on this resource?
3. How can I tell if the information on this resource is correct and accurate?
4. What other resources could I get this information from?

I would then like you to revisit this blog when more people have posted and answer the same questions but for someone else's source. This will check your ability to use a Harvard reference to access information.

You must begin to use Harvard referencing in your assignments. I would like you to compile a Harvard reference list for the resources you used in your profiles. This will be submitted with your final assignment.

This isn't in the correct format for a Harvard reference. Please try again :) You also haven't answered all 4 questions.

    4. This has to be a reliable source because it's a news website. The only people that can edit the article is the creators of the website. The information on this website is correct and accurate because it is a news website so they can’t post false information or they wooden be reliable. You could get this information from other reliable websites and newspapers.

The source is reliable because it can only be edited by the owner of the article. The information is correct and accurate because the information on other websites such as BBC and Wikipedia back support it.

It is a reliable source because it is a news website. The only people that can edit the text is the creators. The information is correct and accurate because it uses sources like NBC and direct quotes from Chelsea Manning. I could get the information from magazines or news papers.

  4. Title of article, Finnish teen convicted of more than 50,000 computer hacks. Published (8th July 2015) By Leo Kelion , Web address (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-33442419)

Yes this is a reliable source as it is taken from the official BBC news website and so can only be edited by certified publishes who are hired by the BBC. I can tell that the information is accurate as I can compare the information with other sources and websites which verify that the information is correct. To collect other information I could use other articles written about the Lizard Squad as well as the people involved in the case, or use other resources such as books which may have been published. As well as this I could also watch news feeds and interviews that were taken at the time of the hacking on youtube. For example the interview undertaken by Member 1 "RYAN".

The Washington Post is a major daily newspaper in America which is known to fact-check what they report and have won prizes for their journalism. The only people who can edit the information published is the publisher of the report although people can comment on the post. The information can be checked against other major news websites to see if the information matches to one another. Other resources that could be used to obtain other information to this are newspapers and other major news sites such as the BBC.

Yes I believe that this is a reliable souses. This cannot be edited by anyone other than the owner of the YouTube channel. You can trust this source because they are always talking about how they research a subject and get all of the true facts and information before they post it on their channel. You can also trust this source because it is an interview with the group who committed the crime (they call themselves Lizard Squad) only two days after the hack on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. This source confirms how the hack got ended. I couldn’t find this much information anywhere else. This channel has 3 videos (including this one) about the Xbox and PlayStation hack by Lizard squad and they have reliable information with tweet and screenshots of proof that what this person is saying is correct. I don’t think I could find this sort of in depth information anywhere else and I couldn’t find an interview with members of the lizard squad anywhere else. I could find less information from other news websites though like the BBC or Sky.

  11. BBC. (23 April 2014 ). Profile:Private First Class Manning. Available: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11874276. Last accessed 2nd December 2015.

Multiple editors . (N/A). Chelsea Manning. Available: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chelsea_Manning. Last accessed 2nd December 2015.

The BBC is a reliable website as it is one of the main sources for news globally and has specific authors for each of its articles entries.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source as it can be edited by almost anyone. This leads to it being a lot less reliable than BBC, but it also contains a lot more information about Chelsea Manning.
